10 questions

Termites & InnoTermite

10
How do I know if I have termites?
Key signs include mud tubes along walls or skirting boards, hollow-sounding timber when tapped, bubbling or blistering paint without water damage, small piles of frass near woodwork, and discarded swarmer wings near windows and light sources. Contact us immediately for an InnoScan thermal imaging inspection if you notice any of these.
What is the difference between subterranean and drywood termites?
Subterranean termites live underground and enter buildings through soil contact, building mud tubes as they travel. They cause the majority of structural damage in Singapore. Drywood termites live inside timber without soil contact and are found in furniture, door frames and roof timbers. Each species requires a different treatment approach.
What is InnoScan and how does it detect termites?
InnoScan is Innovative Pest Management's thermal imaging inspection method using infrared cameras and moisture meters. It detects hidden termite activity inside walls, beneath flooring and behind built-in furniture without drilling or disrupting surfaces. It is significantly more accurate than visual inspection alone.
What is InnoTermite and how does the Xterm baiting system work?
InnoTermite is Innovative Pest Management's colony-elimination programme using the Xterm BASF termite baiting system. Bait stations are installed at active termite locations. Worker termites feed on the bait and transfer the active ingredient back to the colony, eliminating the queen and the entire nest within weeks. It carries a 9-month warranty.
How does termite bait compare to traditional soil termiticide treatment?
Soil termiticide creates a chemical barrier to block termite entry but does not eliminate the colony. Xterm bait actively targets and collapses the entire colony from within, including the queen. Bait is non-disruptive, requires no drilling or injection, and is more suitable for post-construction or renovation environments.
What anti-termite treatments do you offer?
Innovative Pest Management offers soil barrier treatment, corrective drill-and-inject treatment, reticulation pipe systems for long-term protection, targeted wood injection for active gallery sites, and the InnoTermite Xterm colony-elimination baiting programme. We recommend the appropriate method after a thorough inspection.
How long does anti-termite treatment last?
Altriset (chlorantraniliprole) soil treatment provides 5 to 10 years of protection in Singapore conditions. Premise (imidacloprid) provides 5 to 8 years. Reticulation systems can be recharged every 3 to 5 years for indefinite protection. InnoTermite Xterm bait carries a 9-month colony-elimination warranty.
Do you provide a warranty for termite treatment?
Yes. Every corrective and pre-construction treatment includes a written warranty certificate stating the product used, area treated, coverage period and inspection schedule. The warranty is transferable on property sale and is accepted by most property valuers and structural warranty programmes.
Can anti-termite treatment be done after renovation?
Yes. Post-renovation corrective treatment is common where groundwork has disturbed an existing chemical barrier. We drill at affected zones and re-establish the barrier. This is particularly important when buying a resale property without a pest certificate or when an existing warranty has expired.
Is pre-construction anti-termite treatment mandatory?
Pre-construction treatment is strongly recommended and required for BCA and HDB structural warranty programmes. It must be applied before the concrete slab is poured. Innovative Pest Management issues a compliance certificate for all pre-construction treatments.

Bed Bugs & InnoHeat

8
How do I know if I have bed bugs?
Look for rust-coloured stains on mattress seams, dark ink-dot droppings on bed frames or skirting boards, a faint sweet musty odour in the room, and waking up with itchy bites in a line or cluster. Bed bugs hide in mattress seams, box springs, bed frame joints, wall cracks and behind electrical sockets.
What is InnoHeat and how does it work?
InnoHeat is Innovative Pest Management's proprietary whole-room heat treatment system. We raise the ambient room temperature to 55 to 60 degrees Celsius for several hours, penetrating furniture, mattresses and wall crevices to kill all life stages of bed bugs including eggs without chemicals. It is the most thorough single-session bed bug treatment available in Singapore.
How many sessions are needed to eliminate bed bugs?
A single InnoHeat session eliminates an active infestation including all eggs and carries a 30-day warranty. Chemical water-based spray programmes typically require 2 to 3 sessions at 7 to 10 day intervals. The number of sessions is confirmed at inspection based on infestation severity.
What should I prepare before bed bug treatment?
For water-based treatment: cover all electronics with plastic bags, seal all opened food in containers, remove and wash bedsheets and pillowcases in hot water above 60 degrees Celsius, and discard unnecessary cardboard boxes. Our technician provides a full preparation checklist before the appointment.
Do I need to throw away my mattress or bed?
Very rarely. Innovative Pest Management's technicians aim to resolve bed bug infestations without requiring disposal of the mattress or bed frame. Cardboard boxes and porous clutter items are the main items we advise discarding, as they provide ideal harborage that is difficult to treat.
Can I stay in my room during bed bug treatment?
For InnoHeat treatment, occupants must vacate the treated room for the full 6 to 8 hour session and can return once the room has cooled. For chemical water-based treatment, we recommend staying out for 3 to 4 hours after application.
How do bed bugs spread between units?
Bed bugs travel through wall voids, electrical conduits, pipe chases and gaps between floorboards. In multi-unit buildings, infestations commonly spread to adjacent units. They are also carried in on second-hand furniture, luggage and clothing. We recommend inspecting adjoining units when treating a confirmed infestation.
Is InnoHeat suitable for hotels, hostels and student accommodation?
Yes. InnoHeat is particularly well-suited to hotels, boutique guesthouses, student hostels and service apartments because it eliminates bed bugs without chemical residue, requires no room closure beyond the treatment day, and leaves no odour or staining that could affect the guest experience.
8 questions

Cockroaches

8
What species of cockroaches are most common in Singapore?
The three most common species are the German cockroach (small, pale yellow-brown, typically found in kitchens and food preparation areas), the American cockroach (large, reddish-brown, found in drains and damp utility areas) and the Brown-banded cockroach (prefers warm dry areas such as bedrooms and offices). Each requires a different treatment approach.
What is gel bait treatment and is it safe?
Gel bait is an insecticide mixed with an attractant, applied as small dots inside cockroach harborage zones. Cockroaches feed on the gel and transfer the active ingredient back to the colony through contact and consumption, achieving cascade elimination without spraying. Gel bait is low-odour, low-toxicity and approved for food-handling premises when applied correctly.
Can cockroaches in my restaurant be completely eradicated?
Innovative Pest Management offers a 100% cockroach eradication guarantee for our flush-out treatment in F&B establishments. As long as a reasonable standard of housekeeping is maintained following treatment, we guarantee complete cockroach elimination and will return at no charge if any activity is detected.
Why do cockroaches keep coming back after treatment?
Recurring infestations usually indicate an unresolved entry point or conducive condition such as a leaking pipe, uncleaned grease trap, unsealed drainage gap or improperly stored food. Our technician identifies and documents these during inspection. We treat all harborage zones rather than just visible open areas to address the source.
Why do I see cockroaches in my office when there is hardly any food?
The brown-banded cockroach, the most common office species, feeds on paper, glue, fabrics and starches in addition to food crumbs. They are typically introduced inside cardboard delivery boxes. Office infestations require gel bait targeted at warm electronic and paper storage areas rather than kitchen-focused treatment.
Do I need to empty my kitchen cupboards before cockroach treatment?
For gel bait treatment, there is no need to empty cupboards. Loose food should be stored in sealed containers. If residual spray inside cupboards is required, we will ask you to clear food items. Your technician will provide a specific preparation checklist before the appointment.
How long does cockroach treatment take to work?
Gel bait typically produces noticeable results within 3 to 7 days. Heavy infestations may require a follow-up treatment after 2 to 3 weeks. Residual spray treatment provides an immediate knockdown effect and continued protection for 4 to 8 weeks depending on the environment.
How do you treat cockroaches in ceiling voids and service risers?
For cockroaches harbouring in ceiling voids, service ducts and pipe risers, Innovative Pest Management uses ultra-low-volume misting with residual insecticide directed into inaccessible voids, combined with strategically placed gel bait stations at duct access points. This is a common requirement in commercial kitchens and food factory environments.
10 questions

Rodents & InnoSight

10
What rodent control methods do you use?
We use a combination of snap traps, multi-catch live traps, glue boards and tamper-resistant bait stations placed at key rodent runways. For commercial premises, we offer InnoSight, our AI-powered smart rodent monitoring system, which sends real-time trap-trigger alerts and generates digital activity reports for facility managers.
What is InnoSight and how does it work?
InnoSight is Innovative Pest Management's AI camera-based rodent detection system. Cameras installed at key rodent movement areas use computer vision to identify rodent activity and send an alert to our operations team within 60 seconds of detection. Activity reports and heatmaps are generated automatically for site managers.
How does InnoSight differ from traditional rodent traps?
Traditional traps provide no alert until a manual check is made, which may be weekly or monthly. InnoSight detects and notifies within 60 seconds of any rodent activity, enabling an immediate response. It also generates data on hotspots, peak activity times and population trends that inform long-term control strategies.
What is InnoTrap and how does it work?
InnoTrap is Innovative Pest Management's IoT-connected precision rodent sensor. It uses pressure, heat and motion sensors inside a specially designed bait station to detect rodent entry and trigger a live alert. InnoTrap requires no power infrastructure and is ideal for drainage systems, bin centres and outdoor areas.
Can rodent monitoring data integrate with facility management dashboards?
Yes. InnoSight and InnoTrap activity data can be exported in standard formats compatible with most building management and facility management platforms. This allows pest activity data to sit alongside other building health metrics for unified reporting, particularly relevant for MCST managers and facilities operators.
What are the three common types of rodents found in Singapore?
The three most common species are the House Mouse (Mus musculus), the Sewer Rat or Brown Rat (Rattus norvegicus) and the Roof Rat or Black Rat (Rattus rattus). Each species has different behaviour, preferred harborage and movement patterns, requiring tailored trap placement and bait selection.
Are rodent baits safe for children and pets?
All bait stations Innovative Pest Management installs are tamper-resistant and secured to prevent access by children, non-target animals and pets. Anticoagulant baits are placed only inside locked, weighted stations in professional-grade installations. Our technician briefs you on placement locations and safety precautions on the day of treatment.
How do rodents enter buildings?
Rats can squeeze through gaps as small as 12 millimetres and mice through gaps as small as 6 millimetres. Common entry points include unsealed pipe penetrations, gaps under doors, broken drain covers, damaged roofline joints and unscreened ventilation grilles. We inspect and document all active entry points and recommend proofing measures.
How long does rodent control take?
Active rodent populations in residential properties are typically reduced within 2 to 4 weeks. Commercial and high-infestation sites require an ongoing monitoring programme. Our rodent contract includes monthly or quarterly monitoring visits, bait replenishment and rodent-proofing recommendations.
Is a shrew considered a rodent?
No. Shrews belong to the order Soricomorpha, not Rodentia. Unlike rodents, shrews have pointed snouts, very high metabolic rates and do not have continuously growing incisors. Shrews are insectivores and pose no structural damage risk. If you are unsure whether you have a shrew or mouse, our inspection team can identify the species accurately.
8 questions

Mosquitoes & InnoMozzie

8
What mosquito control methods do you use?
Innovative Pest Management uses larviciding (treating standing water with BTI or temephos), adulticiding via ULV thermal misting of resting areas, and InnoMozzie, our In2Care smart mosquito trap system. InnoMozzie uses a water-based lure to attract Aedes mosquitoes and auto-disseminates a biological agent to nearby breeding sites, breaking the breeding cycle.
What is InnoMozzie and how does it control dengue mosquitoes?
InnoMozzie is Innovative Pest Management's smart mosquito trap based on the In2Care system. It attracts gravid Aedes aegypti females using a biological lure, contaminates them with a slow-acting biological agent, and the mosquitoes then carry this agent to nearby breeding containers before dying. The system is chemical-free and provides broader control than point treatment alone.
Is InnoMozzie suitable for outdoor F&B and hotel spaces?
Yes. InnoMozzie is specifically designed for outdoor environments including hotel gardens, resort pools, alfresco dining areas, condo facilities decks and school grounds. Because it uses only biological agents rather than chemical pesticides, it is safe for food-adjacent use and does not require evacuation during installation or servicing.
How often should mosquito treatment be done?
For residential properties during the dengue season (October to January), we recommend monthly treatment. Commercial premises with large outdoor areas such as hotels, schools and F&B outlets typically require fortnightly or monthly programmes. InnoMozzie trap servicing is performed on a bi-weekly schedule.
Can mosquito treatment be done near pools and ornamental ponds?
Yes. We use NEA-registered larvicides safe for ornamental ponds and non-potable water features. Potable water storage tanks are treated with BTI (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis), a biological larvicide approved for drinking water sources. Pools require only a brief 30-minute no-swim window after treatment.
Why do mosquitoes bite humans?
Only female mosquitoes bite. They require blood proteins and iron to develop their eggs. Male mosquitoes feed exclusively on plant nectar. The Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus are the primary dengue vectors in Singapore and are most active during daytime, particularly around dawn and dusk.
How can I reduce mosquito breeding on my property?
Eliminate all standing water including water in flower pot saucers, roof gutters, air-conditioner trays, canvas folds and blocked drains. For persistent outdoor areas, InnoMozzie traps provide continuous population control between professional treatment visits. The NEA recommends the 5-step Mozzie Wipeout programme.
Do mosquitoes transmit COVID-19?
No. There is no scientific evidence that mosquitoes can transmit the COVID-19 virus. COVID-19 spreads primarily through respiratory droplets between people. Mosquito control remains important in Singapore for dengue, chikungunya and Zika prevention, which are real and ongoing public health concerns.
7 questions

Ants

7
What treatment methods do you use for ants?
Treatment depends on the ant species. Innovative Pest Management uses gel bait for species that respond to sugar-based attractants such as ghost ants and pharaoh ants, residual misting for perimeter control, and granular bait for outdoor foraging colonies. Correct species identification before treatment is essential for effective control.
How long does it take to eliminate an ant infestation?
Treatment time depends on the species and severity of infestation. Gel bait programmes show results within 3 to 10 days. Complete colony elimination for established infestations may take 2 to 4 weeks. Our technician sets realistic expectations at inspection and schedules follow-up visits accordingly.
Can ants cause structural damage to my property?
Carpenter ants excavate galleries inside moist or damaged timber, which can weaken structural wood over time. They do not consume wood like termites but the damage from nesting is real. Other common species such as ghost ants and fire ants are primarily a hygiene and comfort concern rather than a structural threat.
Why do ants walk in trails?
Ants communicate via pheromone trails laid by scout ants to guide the colony to food sources. This trail behaviour actually helps our technicians trace the trail back to the colony entrance or harborage, enabling targeted treatment at the source rather than just the visible trail.
Are your ant treatments safe for children and pets?
Innovative Pest Management uses eco-friendly, low-toxicity products for residential treatments. Gel bait is applied in targeted micro-dots inside harborage areas rather than sprayed broadly. Our technicians take extra care to avoid applying any product near accessible areas when young children or pets are present.
What can I do myself before calling a professional for ants?
Try to locate the ant trail and trace it to the entry point or colony. Wipe away the pheromone trail with soapy water to temporarily disrupt foraging. Off-the-shelf insecticide spray can suppress visible activity but rarely eliminates the colony. If the infestation persists after 1 to 2 weeks, contact a professional.
How do I tell the difference between ant swarmers and termite swarmers?
Ant swarmers have a narrow waist (pinched between thorax and abdomen), elbowed antennae, and wings of unequal length. Termite swarmers have a thick waist, straight beaded antennae, and four wings of equal length. If in doubt, preserve the insect and contact us for species identification before disturbing the area.
8 questions

Flies, Booklice & Other

8
What are the most common types of flies in Singapore?
The most common are house flies (Musca domestica), attracted to decaying organic matter and food waste; fruit flies (Drosophila), attracted to overripe fruit and fermented liquids; and drain flies (Psychodidae), which breed in organic film inside drains and pipes. Each species requires a different treatment approach.
What is InnoFly and how does it control flying insects?
InnoFly is Innovative Pest Management's UV light fly control unit. It uses ultraviolet attractant tubes to lure flying insects onto a discreet glue board. InnoFly is silent, odourless and requires no pesticide, making it ideal for food preparation areas, bakeries, healthcare facilities and any environment where chemical treatment is unsuitable.
Are flies a health risk in F&B establishments?
Yes. House flies mechanically transfer over 100 pathogens including salmonella, E. coli and listeria by landing on food preparation surfaces. A single fly infestation in an SFA-regulated premises can result in demerit points, fines or suspension. Innovative Pest Management provides InnoFly units and residual treatment programmes specifically designed for F&B compliance.
What are booklice and why do they appear?
Booklice (psocids) are tiny, soft-bodied insects commonly found on walls, ceilings and in humid storage areas. They feed on mould and fungi that grow on surfaces in high-humidity environments. They are often mistaken for lice but do not bite humans and pose no direct health risk.
Are booklice harmful to humans?
Booklice do not bite, sting or transmit diseases to humans. However, a large booklice infestation is a reliable indicator of high indoor humidity and mould growth, which can affect respiratory health and cause damage to books, paper, stored food packaging and timber surfaces.
What causes booklice infestations?
Booklice infestations are caused by sustained high indoor humidity levels that allow mould and fungi to develop on walls, furniture and paper surfaces. Singapore's climate makes this common in poorly ventilated rooms, behind furniture against external walls, and in aircon-free storage areas.
How do I get rid of booklice?
Reduce indoor humidity using a dehumidifier or air-conditioner set below 60% relative humidity. Clean and treat affected surfaces to remove mould. Apply anti-fungal paint on affected walls. Professional treatment is needed for severe infestations where mould cannot be fully controlled by the occupant.
How can I prevent booklice from returning?
Maintain indoor relative humidity below 60% consistently. Apply anti-fungal paint to walls in bathrooms, storerooms and any area that regularly experiences condensation. Ensure adequate ventilation in all rooms. Booklice will naturally disappear once their food source (mould and fungi) is eliminated.

We use gel bait targeted in harborage zones instead of broad spraying, biological larvicides for mosquito breeding, InnoHeat thermal treatment for bed bugs, and InnoMozzie biological traps for mosquito control. Chemical treatment is used only where specifically required.
Are pest control treatments safe for homes with children and pets?
Yes. All products Innovative Pest Management uses in residential settings are NEA-registered and selected for safety in home environments. Our technicians take specific precautions when children or pets are present, avoiding application near accessible areas and using odourless, low-toxicity formulations. We brief all household members on any precautions before leaving.
What is pre-move-in pest control and why is it recommended?
Pre-move-in pest control is a preventive treatment performed on a new or newly renovated home before the owner or tenant moves in. It is the optimal time to treat all harborage zones without concern for furniture or belongings. We treat the entire property for cockroaches, ants and rodent-proofing entry points, and provide a termite inspection for resale properties.
How do infestations spread between units in a condo or HDB block?
Pests commonly spread between apartments through shared pipe chases, air-conditioning trunking, cable conduits, lift lobby gaps and gaps around pipe penetrations in party walls. Bed bugs and cockroaches are the most frequent cross-unit pests. Innovative Pest Management recommends inspecting adjoining and adjacent units when a confirmed infestation is detected.
What is MCST pest management and why is it important?
MCST pest management refers to the pest control programme for common areas of strata-titled residential or mixed developments, including lobbies, carparks, bin centres, pool areas and landscaped grounds. A comprehensive MCST programme protects all residents and prevents pests from migrating between common areas and private units.
Do you provide pest documentation for property transactions?
Yes. Innovative Pest Management issues written inspection reports, treatment certificates and warranty documents accepted for property sales, purchases and lease agreements. Termite warranty certificates are transferable on property sale. Contact us if you need specific documentation formats for conveyancing or property valuation purposes.
How do I prevent pests from returning to a newly renovated home?
After renovation, seal all pipe and cable penetrations through walls and floors. Install mesh screens on all ventilation openings. Check that all drainage traps are installed and functional. Arrange a post-renovation inspection to check for any inadvertent termite pathway created during construction. A preventive gel bait programme for the first 6 months provides early-detection protection.
What pest control services do you offer for landed properties?
For landed properties, Innovative Pest Management provides subterranean termite inspection with InnoScan thermal imaging, anti-termite soil treatment or reticulation systems, cockroach and rodent control programmes, mosquito management for gardens and water features, and pre-construction termite treatment for rebuilds. Landed property owners are among the highest-risk group for subterranean termite damage in Singapore.
